Larry Fink, CEO of BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager, with +$9 trillion under management, publishes a letter every year to CEOs.  In it, he promotes the need for corporate sustainability.

Here is his 2022 letter.

Here is a Harvard Law article that summarizes Larry’s letter.

Here are the key points:

  • Capital markets are shifting to sustainable investments and there is a need to be sustainable to attract funds.
  • Every company and every industry will be transformed by the transition to Net Zero.  The question is, will your company lead or follow?
  • The next 1,000 Unicorns (startups with valuations exceeding $1b) won’t be search engines or social media companies, but sustainability innovators
  • We focus on sustainability, not because we are environmentalists, but because we are capitalists (certified sustainable companies make more money).
