None of us can operate our household or business budget for long when running at a deficit.

Yet, we have been operating our planet in deficit for 50+ years.

This year, Earth Overshoot Day falls on Thursday, July 28, the 182nd day of the year – only 50% into our year.

Earth Overshoot Day marks the date when humanity has exhausted nature’s budget for the year. For the rest of the year, we are maintaining our ecological deficit by drawing down local resource stocks and accumulating carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. We are operating in overshoot.

How long could your home or business operate at a deficit?  Could you make it 50 years?  Could you even make it through the balance of this year?

Not a fun thought, right?
