As most of us know, the world’s coral reefs are in distress:
- A large coral reef takes 100,000 – 1 million years to form
- Due to global warming, we have lost 50% of all coral reefs in the last 50 years
- Over 80% of the remaining reefs are under threat of death, due to rising temperatures
- There is a good chance the remaining reefs will be gone in your lifetime
- This will have a dramatically bad impact on sea life, and us
Early in my career, I worked in the HBA industry, manufacturing and marketing perfumes, colognes, soaps, shampoos, and other health and beauty items.
But as a SCUBA diver of almost 50 years, I can’t remember a time I applied my favorite cologne prior to putting my SCUBA gear on.
Clearly, I was not thinking creatively enough.
It seems scientists are using coral-attracting perfume to entice coral larvae to rocks they want to form new reefs on.
Maybe I should approach my old industry and present a new scent – Eau de fish parfum!
