2022 Earth Overshoot Day – July 28
None of us can operate our household or business budget for long when running at a deficit.
Yet, we have been operating our planet in deficit for 50+ years.
This year, Earth Overshoot Day falls on Thursday, July 28, the 182nd day of the year – only 50% into our year.
Earth Overshoot Day marks the date when humanity has exhausted nature’s budget for the year. For the rest of the year, we are maintaining our ecological deficit by drawing down local resource stocks and accumulating carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. We are operating in overshoot.
How long could your home or business operate at a deficit? Could you make it 50 years? Could you even make it through the balance of this year?
Not a fun thought, right?
Greenwashing Affects Bottom Line
Based on this article
- Companies know environmental sustainability messaging is profitable
- Net, many companies exaggerate in order to cash in
- Studies show 42% of green claims are exaggerated, false or defective
- However, this is dangerous, as customers are highly likely to learn the truth
- When uncovered, it negatively impacts the company’s image, earnings per share and ROI
Here is a guide on what a SME (small to mid-sized enterprise) should look for in an environmental sustainability program. This will save you from being viewed as a greenwasher and help you benefit from being recognized as environmentally sustainable.

World’s Premier Green Search Engine and World’s Premier Sustainability Program Team Up!
Edenark Group, the world’s premier corporate environmental sustainability certification program, is teaming up with Zureli, the world’s premier green search engine and directory, to develop and promote sustainability certifications for small to mid-sized enterprises (SMEs).
According to studies, certified sustainable SMEs are growing 20x faster than their non-certified competitive peers. This is partially due to sustainability certification being relatively new to SMEs; allowing the certified sustainable ones to stand out and enjoy enhanced revenue and profit growth from being rewarded by the market.
The Zureli Green Directory, with over 1500 existing companies and over 43,000 newsletter members, will help promote the companies that become certified via the Edenark Group ISO 14001 program. Zureli will also provide $1,000 of free global promotional support to companies certified under the Edenark Group ISO 14001 program.

Global Warming – Cost to Correct
Per the below report by Morgan Stanley, it will cost $50 Trillion to stop global warming by 2050.
Is that a big number?
Well, the current estimate of World GDP is roughly $80 Trillion/year. This is expected to double, to $160 Trillion by 2050.
Therefore, over the 30 years, the $50 Trillion to stop global warming equates to roughly 0.014 of world GDP.
By itself, $50 Trillion is a very big number. But, spread over 30 years, and all the world economies, it is a very small and achievable number.

Recommendation of Edenark Group Program
We are honored to have Expense-To-Profit as a corporate friend and partner. In this article, they recommend the Edenark Group ISO 14001 program.
They also recommend you sign up for the Ucapture carbon offset program, which we also recommend and can help your company use (see this link) as part of your overall corporate carbon neutrality program.
Specifically, it is more efficient, from a time and cost standpoint, to pursue carbon neutrality after you become certified sustainable. Then, with your sustainability foundation established, Edenark Group can help you:
- quantify your carbon footprint
- develop a cost-effective plan for pursuit of neutrality (via your long-term sustainability efforts and/or short-term carbon offsets)
- acquire offsets for you, if needed
- certify your carbon neutrality program under the Edenark Group ISO 14065 Carbon Neutral certification.
