How does AI view leaders of certified sustainable companies versus you?
A recruiter asked the CEO of one of our environmentally certified sustainable clients to consider pursuing a new CEO position.
The recruiter said the CEO would have an advantage over the other candidates in the eyes of the private equity group that would be making the decision due to having been CEO of a company that was environmentally certified sustainable. To verify his point, he then showed the CEO the below, which is what he produced via AI –
Leaders in companies that achieve sustainability certifications are often perceived as better due to a combination of factors related to their skills, mindset, and the benefits such certifications bring to the business:
- Stronger leadership qualities
- Vision and Purpose: They articulate a clear vision for the company’s long-term sustainability journey, aligning actions with environmental and social well-being.
- Systems Thinking: Leaders understand the interconnectedness of economic, environmental, and social systems, allowing for a holistic approach to problem-solving.
- Ethical Decision-Making: They prioritize integrity, transparency, and accountability in their decisions, considering the long-term impact on all stakeholders.
- Collaboration and Influence: Sustainable leaders build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders (employees, customers, investors, community), fostering collaboration and influencing positive change.
- Adaptability and Resilience: They are open to new ideas, willing to adjust strategies, and can navigate uncertainty and setbacks in the dynamic field of sustainability.
- Innovation and Creativity: Leaders encourage innovative solutions and experimentation to address sustainability challenges and improve performance.
- Focus on Long-Term Value: They prioritize sustainable growth and resilience over short-term gains, considering the needs of future generations.
- Business benefits associated with certification
- Enhanced Reputation and Brand Image: Certifications like the ISO 14001 provide third-party validation of a company’s commitment to sustainability, building trust with consumers and boosting brand reputation.
- Increased Customer Loyalty and Market Differentiation: A commitment to sustainability can differentiate a company in a competitive market, attracting consumers and leading to higher sales.
- Improved Talent Attraction and Retention: Companies with strong sustainability practices are more attractive to job seekers, particularly millennials and Gen Z, who value ethical and socially responsible employers.
- Cost Savings and Operational Efficiency: Implementing sustainable practices like energy efficiency and waste reduction often leads to significant cost savings in the long run.
- Better Risk Management: Proactive engagement with sustainability helps companies mitigate risks related to environmental regulations, supply chain disruptions, and reputational damage.
- Compliance with Regulations: Certifications can help organizations meet or exceed increasingly stringent environmental and social regulations, avoiding penalties and fostering stronger relationships with regulatory bodies.
In essence, leaders in certified sustainable companies are often better because they possess and demonstrate a unique blend of leadership qualities that drive both positive business outcomes and a deeper commitment to creating a more sustainable future.
If you find yourself competing against the leader of an environmentally certified sustainable company for a new job, odds are, you are going to lose.
Until you leave your current company, if you find your company competing against an environmentally certified sustainable competitor, odds are, you are also going to lose.

OnlinePayroll Services has renewed its Environmental Sustainability Certification through 2025
OnlinePayroll Services ( https://onlinepayroll.services/ ), previously known as TruPayroll (https://www.trupayroll.com/ ), a relationship-driven, full service, payroll provider, located in Marco Island, Florida has continued its environmental sustainability commitment by renewing and extending its Edenark Group ISO 14001 sustainability certification through 2025.
The Edenark Group ISO 14001 is the world’s premier environmental sustainability certification program and allows SMEs (small to mid-sized enterprises) the ability to attain the world’s most popular environmental certification standard via a program designed and priced specifically for them. Edenark Group also helps clients pursue carbon neutrality and ESG compliance, using the Edenark Group ISO 14001 as a foundation for long term compliance.
The program, which allows companies to progressively improve at a pace that works for their needs, helps the organization define how it interacts internally, externally, and with the environment. It incorporates energy/waste/water, employee health and performance enhancement, community involvement, procurement and suppliers, compliance and regulations, emergency/security, and stakeholder engagement. Benefits include creating a culture of continual improvement, stakeholder engagement, lower costs, higher revenues and profits, improved employee performance, and…… doing the right thing for the environment and current and future generations.
“I love helping people beyond my core corporate service. We strive to have a positive impact on our clients’ personal lives, their businesses, and their community,” said Al Wagner, CEO of OnlinePayroll Services. “This desire to help others is what caused me to become passionate about sustainability. I want to be part of the global solution by making an impact in my community, for my family and my clients’ families. The Edenark Group ISO 14001 program gives me that platform,” added Wagner.
“Further, OnlinePayroll Services is part of a supply chain that includes WholeSale Payroll and DataSetGo. All three companies are environmentally certified sustainable,” added Wagner.
“Edenark Group has a wonderful multi-year relationship with OnlinePayroll Services and its predecessor, TruPayroll. They are an example of what the world needs more of – an organization that produces a superior product, supports its current stakeholders, shows it cares about future generations via its commitment to sustainability certification, and makes more money due to its sustainability programs,” said David Goodman, CEO of Edenark Group. “When an organization executes the Edenark Group ISO 14001 sustainability certification, as OnlinePayroll Services is doing, it not only benefits the environment, but it also benefits its own operation and its clients,” added Goodman.

What would your profit look like if the planet sent an invoice?
Most of you reading this do not work for publicly traded companies. As such, you don’t have to publish your company’s performance. However, you might also appreciate the simplicity in the following proposal.
As we all know, there is a huge gap between corporate pledges versus their actual actions, on environmental sustainability.
As proposed in this article, what if, as part of a company’s various filings, it had to publish its carbon-adjusted profit and loss? This figure would be calculated using a globally standardized shadow price for carbon (for example, $200 per ton of carbon dioxide equivalent).
So, for the quarter, a company might show that it made $US1 billion in profit…..but when they show their carbon emissions against that profit, their adjusted number might be $0.00, or negative.
Bringing the light of day to a carbon-adjusted profit number would, in most cases, be very motivating for companies to proceed with their pledges.
Not a bad idea!
2025 Trending to be 3rd Hottest Year on Record
June 2025 was the third hottest June on record, trailing 2024 and 2023.
As a year, 2025 is also settling into 3rd place, behind 2024 and 2023. It is unlikely it will overtake 2024 or 2023 as the hottest and second hottest years on record, but it is trending ahead of all other years.
The good news is we did not continue the pace of 2023 and 2024.
The bad news is our overall trendline, as you can see from the picture, continues to go up.
Turkey Formalizes Paris Agreement Domestic Action!
Via Climate Law #7512, published 9 July 2025, Turkey has officially created the legal framework for the fight against climate change.
The law covers individuals and companies and includes many provisions like reporting, carbon market offsetting, climate finance, greenhouse gas permits, action plans, and sanctions.
Great to see!
The Cost of Silence
We all know environmentally certified sustainable companies are growing faster than their peers.
Companies that are not certified sustainable have made a conscious decision to abdicate sector leadership and compete for 2nd place.
However, there is also a further cost – ie, the ‘Cost of Silence’ – to those companies that have not become certified sustainable (ie, either doing nothing or greenwashing).
This ‘Cost of Silence’ is the continual erosion of market trust. Companies that are not certified sustainable have a 31% lower reputation score than their peers that are certified sustainable.
Think about the above point – Not only do companies that are not certified sustainable make less money today and have a lower market image today; but due to their lower market image they will be forced to spend more money in the future, than their certified sustainable peers, to overcome their weaker reputation.
Pardon the pun, but that is not a sustainable model – you have abdicated leadership, are making less money, have a worse reputation, and have higher costs attached to overcoming the reputation you have created for yourself…..all because you don’t want to listen to what the market is asking of you, which is to do good for the planet.
